This is the required course to obtain your New York State Pistol Permit.

Requirements to obtain a pistol permit in many NY counties have, for many years, included successfully completing a pistol safety class in advance of applying.

The Albany County Pistol Club has been hosting pistol permit classes for over 15 years. Presented in cooperation with ArmsWise, LLC, a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder, this class is conducted over two days. Each day runs from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

This class is taught by Duly Authorized Instructors and your completion certificate is valid in any NYS jurisdiction.

As per NY law concealed carry firearm safety training must include 16 hours of in-person live classroom instruction and 2 hours of live fire. The course is conducted over two days. Each day runs from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

  • Firearms safety and safe handling practices
  • Firearm and ammunition function and operation
  • Cleaning and maintenance
  • Range safety
  • Holster and accessory considerations
  • Concealed carry considerations
  • Safe storage and transportation requirements
  • State and federal gun laws
  • Situational awareness and concealed carry
  • Conflict de-escalation and management
  • Effects of drugs and alcohol
  • Proper interaction with law enforcement
  • Sensitive and Restricted areas
  • Use of deadly force and duty to retreat / NY Article 35
  • Suicide prevention / recognizing the signs
  • Principles of marksmanship
  • Fundamentals of shooting
  • Dry fire and live fire exercises (firearm, ammunition, eye and ear protection will be provided)
  • Written test
  • Live Fire Assessment and Qualification

Tuition & Fees
The class is $275. There are no other fees. All equipment for the 'live fire' curriculum is provided and included in your basic tuition of $275.
